Like father, like son - Bruins feel-good story of the 2014 Draft

Many of you, and I'm not excluding me, weren't that excited about the picks Peter Chiarelli and the Bruins managment made at this years Draft. Putting that aside, the selection of Ryan Donato in the 2nd round got to make you feel happy for this kid.

The son of  former Harvard hockey captain and Bruins forward Ted Donato grew up alongside the franchise, got to know the likes of Ray Bourque or Cam Neely at young age.
You could feel the excitement when Ryan talked about beeing drafted by his hometown team and the one he grew up cheering for.

Donato appeared very mature in his statements, knowing that there is a lot of work between now and wearing the B's jersey on Garden ice one day. Just like his favourite player Patrice Bergeron, Donato stated that he likes to be a team player in all kind of situations, whether it's blocking shots or playing the body. The Scituate native was also very aware of the fact that he has got to work on his skating, aswell as his strength.

Ranked 100th overall by Central Scouting, Donato is desribed as intelligent player who reads the game very well and possesses slick hands. He appeared in 30 games for Dexter School (Brooklin, Mass.) last season, recording 78 points including 37 goals. After his last high school year, Donato will join Harvard University, to play for the team his dad is coaching for ten years now.

The Center has yet to play in a major tournament, though he has already appeared in 4 games for the US-national under 18 team. Donato is the third Massachusetts native picked by the Bruins in the last three drafts. He joins Ryan Fitzgerald (4th round  2013 / Boston College) and Matt Grzelcyk (3rd round 2012 / Boston University) in the B's prospect pool.
