The night began with Bobby Orr dropping the puck as part of the Bruins 90 year anniversary celebration.
The night ended with Tuukka Rask bashing his stick on the ice after Derek Roy's game winning goal.
In between ? One hell of a hockey game between two teams who'll defenitely compete for the Cup.
It's always hard to lose in a shootout, especially after a tough and close game like that one last night.
Just understandable that Tuukka wasn't happy with his performance in the shootout after he made an unconvential mistake late in the 1st to tie the game for the Blues.
Bruins started the night by missing two of their core defenseman with Adam McQuaid still struggeling with his hip/groin and Dennis Seidenberg who's out indefenitely with a lower body injury.
26-year old Kevan Miller was called up from Providence to make his NHL debut in which he paired up with Matt Bartkowski for most of the time.
Miller has made a statement for himself in this year's training camp where Claude Julien described him as a stay at home defenseman, McQuaid type of guy and "[...] those big strong defensemen are not easy to find."
The rookie ended the game with a +1 rating after a very convincing defensive effort, highlighted by a strong hit against Magnus Pääjärvi in the 2nd period. Julien even rewarded him with an overtime shift.
The B's started the game where they ended off Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
Once again the Merlot line gets it done as Campbell and Thornton create a turnover in the offensive zone, Paille passes to Krug who serves Campbell with a brilliant cross ice pass, finished by a nice one-timer from number 11.
31 seconds later the game was tied. Derek Roy's very slow shot just in front of the blue line get's deflected by Jaden Schwartz around the faceoff dot and finds his way behind Rask somehow.
The puck seemed to have eyes, although one can not totally clear of Rask from saving that shot.
A very physical game continued in the second without any penaltys beeing called as bodies flew all over the ice.
Late in the period Krejci get's thrown out of the faceoff dot in front of the Bruins goal and his replacement
Lucic loses the battle with Backes, Shattenkirk fires a shot from the blue line which get's deflected in the crease by Backes and it's 2:1 Blues.
Only two minutes later the B's answer with a great shift from their 3rd line, starting with a backhand takeaway from Carl Söderberg in the neutral zone.
Chris Kelly with a pass from behind the goal to Reilly Smith who has great vision for Söderberg who's snapshot ties the game.
The Bruins only powerplay in the game is underlined by great puck movement from the Hamilton-Eriksson-Bergeron- Smith and Söderberg line which produced for two big chances midway through the 3rd.
Both teams deserved more than a point in this game and so they went to Overtime in which Kelly and Söderberg had the chance to win the game for the B's and Blues Derek Roy rang the post.
Patrice Bergeron is the first player to beat Halak in the shootout this year, but the NHL's top scorer Alex Steen and Derek Roy beat Rask to win the game for the Blues.
